Job Summary
Responsible for assisting the Infection Preventionist, Data Coordinator, and Hospital Epidemiologist in the day:toï¿ day Infection Prevention activities for any designated healthcare facility, clinic and healthcare service throughout the continuum of care.
Essential Functions
: Abstracts data from patient charts for surveillance to generate healthcare associated infection statistics. Utilizes standardized definitions, algorithms and case finding methodology. Utilizes several electronic systems to collect data.
:Responsible for accurate data entry of infections into department data bases (i.e. NHSN, TheraDoc).
:Assists with preparing reports describing studies, outcomes, and plan of action.
:Conducts environmental rounds in all assigned inpatient and outpatient care areas following checklist developed by the certified RN/Infection Preventionist for compliance with regulatory agency standards (i.e. state, TJC, CMS). Compiles data for the RN/Infection Preventionist I and II.
:Conducts routine and focus audits for the department as requested by the certified RN/Infection Preventionist (i.e. hand hygiene validation, compliance with PPE) or as requested by leadership and compiles data.
:Assists with message call follow:up for patient care.
:Assists with reportable disease reporting for any CHS facility across the continuum of care.
:Assists the Data Coordinator in the preparation of any CHS designated facility Infection Prevention, PI, Medical Executive Committee, or Administration presentations and reports.
:Serves as Departmental Fit Tester, as assigned.
:Responsible for clerical duties including, but not limited to: delivery of mail, ordering/maintaining inventory supplies for team, answering incoming phone calls and routing to appropriate team member, scheduling meetings, scribing, preparing and formatting reports and documents.
:As applicable, works in the Licensed Practical Nurse role within the applicable State Board of Nursing regulations and guidelines. Maintains licensure and complies with the requirements for continued competency. Physical Requirements
Works in an office and/or boardroom type setting. Surveillance work requires walking throughout the facility. May be prolonged periods of sitting at desk reviewing medical records, and utilizing a PC. Must have the ability to clearly communicate verbally, in person, and in writing with patients, families/agencies and the health care team; must possess a strong sense of urgency and make sound decisions. Possible travel/driving to CHS facilities as required.
Education, Experience and Certifications
High school graduate or equivalent required. Licensed Practical Nurse with current license to practice in NC or SC (dependent on the physical location) strongly preferred. Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing strongly preferred. If not an LPN, must be recognized/certified as a CMA or RMA by one of the following National Organizations: American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National Healthcare Association (NHA), National Healthcare Workers Association (NHCWA), National Center for Competency Training (NCCT), American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA), American Medical Technologist (AMT). 2 years clinical work experience required. Knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology and medical terminology required. Candidate must possess one of the following: a) Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program; b) Intermediate EMT or Paramedic
