Location: Carolinas Medical Center
Assists with the recovery of all usable organs and other tissues for transplantation or research. Conducts donor evaluation, obtains family consent, assists with donor management and with the surgical recovery. Responsible for placement, preservation, and transportation of shared organs.
:Consults with the Procurement Coordinator II regarding donor management.
:Responds to donor calls within the designated service area to perform donor evaluation as to suitability and viability of organs and tissues.
:Assists with the medical management of potential donors in conjunction with the Procurement Coordinator II.
:Obtains consent from family members for organ/tissue donations.
:Identifies appropriate surgeon(s) to perform necessary procedures and to assist with these procedures.
:Provides post:recovery information to the medical professionals who were involved in the donors terminal hospital course including attending physician(s), resident staff, nurses, and to the donors family.
:Makes regular rounds and provides inservices for assigned hospitals to identify potential donors and heighten awareness.
:Coordinates recovery efforts with other organ procurement agencies.
:Maintains equipment, drugs, and supplies for procurement and preservation.Physical Requirements
Work in office, patient care area, clinical laboratory and operating room. Long periods of time on duty required. Ability to interact appropriately with grieving families and professional staff. Lifting heavy objects and use of personal car for business is required.
Education, Experience and Certifications
RN with current license in North Carolina preferred, or ABTC Certification as a CPTC. Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) from AHA is required.
