PURPOSE OF ROLE

The Staff Attorney is an entry-level position primarily responsible for counseling on a broad range of commercial and regulatory matters and structuring, drafting and negotiating commercial transactions. The position will work directly with the business on transactions, providing day-to-day advice, resolving issues that arise in existing commercial relationships and handling pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries. This position will be responsible for structuring, drafting and negotiating agreements and providing ongoing legal counseling in a wide range of legal areas, including human resources, information technology, and regulatory compliance. This position must utilize a flexible approach to addressing a high-volume contract workload in a way that protects the company's interests without slowing down the business and provide legal services in a way that displays legal excellence, attention to detail, a proactive and practical approach, and a dedication to customer service.

RESPONSIBILITY STATEMENTS
  • Review, draft, and negotiate a wide variety of contracts
  • Provide general legal support including in the areas of commercial disputes, transaction structuring and strategy, process improvements, risk assessments, legal and regulatory compliance, corporate policies, and other issues
  • Prepares reports by collecting and summarizing information as required
  • Complies with federal and state regulations and service standards
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education
  • Upholds the Lowe's Code of Business Conduct at all times
  • Conducts legal research and draft legal memoranda as needed
  • Works on special projects as assigned
  • Meets or exceeds customers' expectations, looks for ways to improve their experience, while creating a seamless experience by understanding how the Staff Counsel role, team goals, and daily activities fit into the company vision
  • Drives for results by consistently achieving goals and pushing to complete tasks by their deadlines
  • Works cross-functionally to manage and organize work processes and ensure the most efficient work flow
  • Supports a collaborative environment by working in a team of peers to solve problems and share information with peers, manager, and customers as appropriate
  • Organizes resources and information in an efficient manner to handle competing demands and accomplish what needs to be done


REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Juris Doctorate Degree from an ABA accredited school

Licensed to practice law and a member in good standing of at least one state bar
High energy and a dedication to client service
Uncompromising honesty and integrity; ability to maintain confidentiality
Exceptional oral and written communications, presentation, interpersonal, and facilitation skills
Accuracy and attention to detail
Skill and ability to collaborate within a team

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • 1+ years of relevant experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word applications Strong negotiation, drafting, and analytical skills for various types of agreements
  • In-house legal experience
  • Retail work experience
  • Experience counseling on and understanding of legal issues related to the following areas: human resources, information technology
